AMD’s new microprocessors for laptops are just around the corner. In the middle of last February we had the opportunity to participate in a conference at the headquarters of this company in Austin (Texas) to learn first-hand what the Ryzen Mobile 4000 family promises us . And, first and foremost, it promises one thing: to compete with Intel in the laptop-to-laptop market, something AMD accomplished many years ago in the desktop world.

During our visit to AMD facilities, we were able to find out in great detail which microprocessors will be part of the first wave of Ryzen Mobile 4000 solutions , what are the most promising and advanced features of its microarchitecture , what they offer us if we stick to their performance ratio / watt, and lastly, what the first laptops equipped with this CPU family will look like. As you can see, as a first contact it is not there but not bad. AMD has a product that, on paper, might be able to make Intel harder than ever, something that we can confirm when we have the opportunity to analyze the first teams that will mount the new CPUs. The IPC ( Instructions Per Cycle) is a parameter that reflects the number of instructions that a CPU is capable of executing in a single cycle of the clock signal, so the higher it is, the greater its performance. Of course, it is important to keep in mind that the CPI is not the only parameter that determines the productivity of a processor. Other parameters, especially the clock frequency, also have a direct impact on its performance.

On the other hand, the graphic logic of these microprocessors, always according to AMD, will be able to offer us an increase of up to 59% per calculation unit (the GPU houses several of these calculation units or compute units ). And finally, in terms of energy efficiency, this brand promises us a very high performance / watt ratio, a strategy in which the integration of up to eight cores and sixteen threads of execution in its Ryzen microprocessors plays a crucial role. 4000 for ultralight laptops.

The Ryzen Mobile 4000 family of processors consists of three different series of solutions. The U series brings together the chips intended for ultralight consumer laptops. On the other hand, the H series contains microprocessors designed to govern laptops for games and content creation. And finally, the PRO series includes processors designed for ultra-thin laptops with a professional vocation.
